How to Accept Vipps Payments on Kajabi for Norwegian Course Creators

- Name
- Meiring de Wet
If you're selling courses to Norwegian customers, you already know: Vipps is how people pay in Norway.
Over 4 million Norwegians use Vipps. It's on their phones, it's what they trust, and it's what they expect to see at checkout. But Kajabi doesn't support Vipps — you're stuck with Stripe and PayPal.
That creates friction. When Norwegian customers don't see Vipps as an option, some will complete the purchase anyway. Many won't.
CheckoutJoy connects your Vipps account to Kajabi so you can offer the payment method your customers actually want. Payments in Norwegian Krone, automatic course enrollment, and everything integrated end-to-end.
Why Vipps Matters for Norwegian Sales
Vipps isn't just another payment option in Norway — it's the default. It's like asking why you'd accept iDEAL in the Netherlands or PayFast in South Africa.
When Norwegian customers see Vipps at checkout:
- They already have the app installed
- No card numbers to type
- Authentication happens on their phone with a fingerprint
- Payment confirms in seconds
Compare that to pulling out a credit card, typing 16 digits, finding the CVV, entering an expiry date, potentially dealing with 3D Secure, and hoping it goes through.
Vipps removes all of that friction.
What You'll Build
A custom checkout page in Kajabi that accepts Vipps payments:
- Prices in Norwegian Krone (NOK)
- One-time payments and subscriptions supported
- Customer confirms payment in the Vipps mobile app
- Automatic course access after payment
- Your Kajabi automations trigger normally
How It Works
The payment flow is seamless:
- Customer fills in your checkout form (including phone number)
- Clicks to continue payment
- Redirected to Vipps confirmation page
- Receives push notification in Vipps mobile app
- Confirms with fingerprint or PIN
- Redirected to your thank you page
- Already enrolled in the course
The whole thing takes about 30 seconds from their perspective.
Step-by-Step Setup
1. Connect Vipps to CheckoutJoy
- In CheckoutJoy, go to Settings → Payment Methods
- Find Vipps and click Setup
- Enter your Vipps API credentials
- Save the connection
You'll need an active Vipps merchant account. If you don't have one, you can apply through Vipps — approval typically takes a few days.
2. Create a CheckoutJoy Product
- Go to Products → Add Product → Kajabi Offer
- Paste your Kajabi offer checkout page link
- Configure the Kajabi webhooks (Activation and Deactivation URLs)
- Set currency to NOK
- Set your price and billing type
For subscriptions, Vipps handles the recurring billing automatically. Customers approve the subscription in the Vipps app, and subsequent charges happen without additional confirmation.
3. Create a Checkout Widget
- Go to Checkouts → Widgets → New Widget
- Select your Kajabi product
- Set your thank you page URL
- Enable Vipps under Payment Methods
- Make sure Phone Number is included in form fields (required for Vipps)
The phone number is how Vipps identifies which mobile device to send the payment confirmation to.
4. Build Your Kajabi Checkout Page
- In Kajabi, create a new custom page
- Add your content — hero section, testimonials, FAQs
- Add a Custom Code section
- Paste the CheckoutJoy widget embed code
- Save and publish
Checkout Page Best Practices
Norwegian customers appreciate clean, straightforward design. Your checkout page should:
Lead with value — Clear headline about what they're getting. No hype, just facts.
Show the price prominently — In Krone, with VAT included or clearly stated.
Include social proof — Testimonials work, especially from other Norwegians.
Answer questions — FAQ section covering refunds, access, and what's included.
Keep form fields minimal — Name, email, phone number, and terms. Nothing extra unless you need it.
Subscriptions and Memberships
Vipps fully supports subscription payments, which makes it perfect for membership sites and ongoing programs.
When a customer subscribes:
- They approve the subscription in Vipps
- First payment processes immediately
- Future payments charge automatically
- Customer can manage subscriptions in their Vipps app
If a subscription fails (expired card, insufficient funds), Vipps handles the retry logic.
VAT Handling
If you're selling to Norwegian customers, you likely need to charge Norwegian VAT (25%).
CheckoutJoy can automatically calculate and add VAT based on customer location. Enable this in your product settings and your checkout will display the correct tax amount.
For B2B sales, VAT number validation is also available — verified EU/EEA VAT numbers can receive reverse-charge treatment.
Why Not Just Use Stripe?
You can accept Norwegian cards through Stripe. But Vipps isn't about accepting cards — it's about meeting customers where they are.
Think about your own checkout behaviour. When you see your preferred payment method, you relax. When you don't, there's a small moment of friction. Will this work? Is it safe? Do I have my card?
For Norwegian customers, Vipps is that preferred method. It's not about what's possible — it's about what converts.
Getting Started
You need:
- A Kajabi account with a course or membership
- A Vipps merchant account
- A CheckoutJoy account (14-day free trial)
Connect everything in about 15 minutes. Run a test payment to see the flow. Then start selling to your Norwegian audience with the payment method they actually want to use.
